Feline upper respiratory disease complex affects the mouth, nasal passages, sinuses and upper airway tracts of cats and kittens. Causes of this condition include Chlamydia psittaci, reovirus, Bordatella bronchioseptica, Pasterurella and mycoplasmas but majority of cases are caused by calicivirus and feline herpes-1 virus, also called feline rhinotracheitis virus.

Feline herpes may be prevented through vaccination (e.g. injectable killed vaccine, modified live injectable vaccine, modified live vaccine administered through the nose). Vaccination may not totally prevent the disease however, as mild disease may still develop or the cat may be a carrier of the virus.

Feline herpes is transmitted through contact with the eye and/or nose discharges of an infected cat. This commonly occurs via cat-to-cat contact or through contact with dishes, bedding, toys, and the like contaminated with the discharge. Survival of the virus in the environment is less than twenty four hours and the virus is vulnerable to common household disinfectants.

Feline herpes is diagnosed through review of history (e.g. vaccination or contact with an infected cat) and symptoms. Viral isolation and culture are not requested often.

The incubation period of the feline herpes virus is two to seventeen days. The illness may last for two to four weeks, with the cat manifesting sneezing, nasal discharge, conjunctivitis and corneal ulcers, drooling, fever, depression and severe loss of appetite. The feline herpes virus causes abortion. It does not result to limping like the calicivirus does.

Management of feline herpes includes clearing the eyes and nasal passages (e.g. regular removal of discharge, nasal decongestants, etc) and application of ointments for oral ulcers and drops for eye lesions. The immune system of the cat should be strengthened through vitamins and antibiotics which control secondary bacterial infections, if there are any. Sufficient food and water intake is a must to maintain the cat's health.

The feline herpes virus may stay in the cat for a long time. Carriers of rhinotracheitis usually shed the virus when they are stressed.

How to Get Fast Herpes Relief

STOP Herpes Now and From Coming Back for Good

A herpes outbreak can be awful and incredibly uncomfortable, but if you want fast herpes relief, you will need to take precautionary measures. The best treatment is actually prevention, so you need to be aware of herpes outbreak symptoms. Fast herpes relief is possible, if you start treating at the very first signs of an outbreak. This technique is recommended by most doctors.

You should always have a supply of herpes meds on hand so you can start taking them when the first symptoms appear. If you notice any of the regular signs that you are about to have an outbreak, start taking your herpes medications immediately, according to the prescription instructions. You will quickly learn what to watch out for and will be able to prevent the pain and embarrassment of a herpes outbreak before it begins.

For fast herpes relief, you don?t have to be on prescription medications. These can certainly help control the discomfort of an outbreak, but they are not the only way to find relief. In fact, there are several over the counter herpes treatments that you might like to try, as well as natural herpes remedies.

No over the counter remedy will work for everyone. You will need to experiment with which topical ointment works best for you and your body. Once you find one that is good, you will want to keep it handy so you don?t have to suffer any more than necessary. Some of the more popular topical herpes ointments include Herp-eeze, H-balm, and Choraphor. Each of these treatments contains natural ingredients designed to give you fast herpes relief, easing pain and discomfort, although they don?t promise to banish the outbreak completely.

You may also look for a topical anesthetic which will numb the area and ease the pain caused by a herpes outbreak. This is particularly useful in early episodes which tend to be more painful. Also, when the blisters are first forming, you will want to use this type of herpes pain relief, since applying it to open wounds is not a good idea.

Fast herpes relief can be had, but it really depends on the person. You might find that one remedy works for you, while other sufferers will use a completely different treatment that does nothing for your particular case. Remember that experimentation is the key to finding fast herpes relief. If you don?t try new things, you will never find a way to control it!

Herpes outbreaks can cause a lot of pain, sometimes described as razor blades slicing the genital area. Not a pleasant thought, but herpes pain relief can be found. There are a variety of medications and topical applications on the market to provide herpes pain relief, but you can also go natural with some useful home remedies.

If you decide to go with an over the counter treatment for herpes pain relief, you will find a wide range of products. Some are simply local anesthetics that dull the nerve endings and numb the area for a short time. These will need to be reapplied frequently and can get a bit messy.

Icing the affected area can be a good way to get natural herpes pain relief. The coolness will numb the area and can provide a soothing relief. Using a chilled compress of any kind will provide similar herpes pain relief. However, the numbness is only temporary and you will find it necessary to repeat the treatment frequently in order for it to be properly effective.

Taking a warm bath or using a blow dryer set to low can be a good way to ease the pain as well. Your genital area should remain dry to promote faster healing of the blisters and this can be helped along by using the blow dryer or by dusting the area with cornstarch. You may also sprinkle cornstarch in your underwear to ensure dryness.

Another good tip is to use loose clothing, particularly underwear. Tight clothes can irritate the sores and cause an outbreak to be even worse. Cotton clothing is best, as it allows the genital area to breathe and stay dry. Polyester and other synthetic fabrics should be avoided during an outbreak as they tend to capture heat and moisture and can undo any herpes pain relief that you had already sought out.

Regular pain killers can also provide herpes pain relief. Try Tylenol, acetaminophen or even ibuprofen to ease the pain. Using pain killers in combination with a topical treatment is often the best way to treat the discomfort. Experiment to find which combination works best for you.

Herpes pain relief can be elusive at times. It?s all a matter of experimentation and finding out what remedies work for you and your outbreaks. Some people find that they experience such mild outbreaks, all they need is an aspirin, but for others, a topical treatment combined with a pain killer is the only way to cope.

Health Complications With Genital Herpes

Genital herpes in some people may never show symptoms, but for others, the symptoms become so severe that complications develop, especially if sores or herpes blisters appear in other areas of the body.

Cold sores on the lips, called ?herpes labialis?, are normally mild and may be considered a mere nuisance. But if these become prolonged, frequent, or severe, the use of antiviral treatments is recommended.

Blisters on the hands and fingers can also occur and it is called ?herpetic whitlow?. Since the hands can practically reach all parts of the body, it has the greatest capacity to spread the virus. To prevent such a disaster, the hands must be covered with plastic or rubber gloves.

There can be blisters on the anus, too. The infection is called ?herpes proctitis?. This infection is usually more painful and more distressing than genital herpes.

The eyes, especially that of the newborn, is also susceptible to the herpes virus. The infection is called ?herpes keratitis? or ?ocular herpes?. When this happens, or even when you only feel a painful irritation in your eyes, consult the doctor immediately. If ignored, herpes keratitis could lead to blindness.

Women who experience genital herpes outbreaks may also have vaginal yeast infections, called ?vulvovaginal dandidiasis?. There will be swelling, itching, and pain when the woman urinates or engages in a sexual activity. This is due to the presence of too many yeast organisms in the vagina. If you have vaginal yeast infections, it doesn?t mean that you also have genital herpes. The excess growth of yeast occurs for many reasons, such as when the woman is taking antibiotics or birth control pills, or when she is pregnant, or when she is wearing tight body-hugging clothes. Fortunately, with good hygiene, this type of infection disappears on its own.

Sometimes, the genital herpes virus can infect the cerebrospinal fluid and the tissues that surround the brain. This will result to meningitis and encephalitis. Meningitis is life-threatening especially when these occur: changes in vision, photophobia, drowsiness, bulging on the baby?s head, and seizures. Encephalitis happens when the brain becomes swollen. It is also a life-threatening complication and have similar symptoms to that of meningitis. It can also lead to coma.

Other internal organs, such as the joints, lungs, and liver, may suffer complications when a person has genital herpes. These complications occur in people with ineffective immune systems, such as those with HIV, diabetes or cancer and those who are undergoing chemotherapy.

To avoid complications, you must again recall that HSV survives in mucus and may affect any part of the body where mucus is found.
